Inside GIC’s Secret Vault

Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, held its first public exhibition called The Secret Vault to mark its 45th anniversary. Although it offered little new information and was designed primarily for the general public, I still found it interesting to explore GIC’s history, particularly the original documents detailing Singapore’s early efforts to diversify its reserves away from the British pound sterling and into gold.

GIC invests in a wide range of assets around the world, aiming to generate long-term returns above global inflation. Its investments include companies behind many familiar brands, such as ASICS, Uniqlo, Bandai Namco, Nintendo, Don Don Donki, and Shake Shack.
