Piano & Vocal: Perfect Day
Posted in Hobbies, Movies, piano, tagged accomplishment, Lou Reed, Perfect Day, piano on April 29, 2026| Leave a Comment »
After my first piano and singing performance with my boys, I’m ready to attempt a solo. I first encountered this song in one of my favorite films in recent years, and something about it stayed with me. I’m glad to make it part of my piano journey.
Perfect Day by Lou Reed:
Just a perfect day
Drink Sangria in the park
And then later
When it gets dark, we go home
Just a perfect day
Feed animals in the zoo
Then later
A movie, too, and then home
Oh, it’s such a perfect day
I’m glad I spend it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on
Just a perfect day
Problems all left alone
Weekenders on our own
It’s such fun
Just a perfect day
You made me forget myself
I thought I was
Someone else, someone good
Oh, it’s such a perfect day
I’m glad I spent it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on
You’re going to reap just what you sow
You’re going to reap just what you sow
You’re going to reap just what you sow
You’re going to reap just what you sow

Innocent peace;
Dark dreadful reality;
Acceptance and serenity;
But things are never the same

Song by Stefanie Sun
Lyrics:
I hear the winter leaving.
I wake up in some year, some month.
I think, I wait, I look forward to,
But that’s not how the future is arranged.
Cloudy sky, an evening, outside the car window.
There is a person waiting in the future.
To the left, to the right, to the front I look.
How many corners must love turns before it arrives?
Who will I meet, what are we going to say?
The person I’m waiting for, how far away is he in the future?
I hear the wind blowing from the subway and the crowd.
I’m standing in line, holding a number plate for love.
I keep flying and flew across a sea of time.
We both had been injured in love.
I’m watching the road, the entrance to the dream is a bit narrow.
Meeting you is the most beautiful accident.
One day, my riddle will unravel.
First Piano and Vocal Attempt

I’ve wanted to play piano and sing at the same time. This year I finally gave it a shot with one of my favourite Frank Sinatra songs that has a relatively simple accompaniment. I also teamed up with my boys to make it less daunting. I think it’s a good start, and I hope to tackle a solo performance in the future.
My Way Lyrics:
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all, and I stood tall
And did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me
I did it my way
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
Yes, it was my way

Revisiting Piano Repertoire
Posted in Hobbies, piano, tagged Chopin, piano, Waltz in A Minor on October 22, 2025| Leave a Comment »
It’s been almost 5 years since I started learning piano. I’ve learned many songs, but I’ve forgotten most once I stopped practicing them.
In my practice, I tend to choose one longer classical piece, one anime, game, or pop song, and one to two pieces from the ABRSM syllabus. Occasionally, the ABRSM syllabus gives me a chance to revisit pieces I’ve learned. The Chopin Waltz in the grade 6 syllabus was one of them. It was the first Chopin piece I played, and at that time my technique wasn’t good enough for certain passages. It’s easier to pick it up again, and I have fewer troubles with the techniques. But I feel I can still do better to achieve a better flow in the piece. Here’s the latest recording, and here’s my recording three years ago.
Initially, I didn’t like revisiting pieces I’d learned because there were many new pieces I wanted to learn. But as I have gradually played more pieces, I think it might be a good idea to revisit some of my favorites from time to time. This way, I might be able to play them more beautifully, understand the music better, and perhaps commit them to my long-term memory.

| Yasashii hidamari ni chaimu ga direi suru Hoho wo naderu kaze ibuki wa fukakunatteku | In that gentle spot warmed by the sun, the chime is delayed The wind brushing my cheeks turns into my deep breath |
| Toomawari no namida namae tsuketa ashita Kasanaru miraiiro no rain | Roundabout tears, the tomorrow we named Are all overlapping future-colored lines |
| Adokenai konna kimochi mo Hajiketobu hodo waraiaeta hi mo Taisetsu ni sodateteikeru youni Togiretogire no toki wo koete Takusan no hajimete wo kureta Tsugatteyuke todoke | These childish feelings The days we laughed together happily I hope we come to treasure them You surpassed this disconnected time And gave me lots of firsts I’ll connect them to you, I’ll reach you |
| Houkago no yuuyami warau kimi no senaka Hisokana sasayaki fureta koto no nai omoi no naka | The after school sunset, your back, as you’re laughing Secret whispers, inside these untouched feelings |
| Boku no naka no kimi to kimi no naka no boku de Karamaru miraiiro no rain | The you inside of me, and the me inside of you Are all interweaving future-colored lines |
| Ameagari no machi no nioi to Yumemitaina himitsu wo mune ni daite Nandomo nakisou ni natte mata warau Kangaeru yori zutto hayaku Sono mune ni tobikometara ii Tsunagatteyuke todoke | The smell of the town after the rain And the dream-like secret I hold in my heart So many times I’ve felt like crying, but then laughed instead Rather than thinking about it, hurry up It’s fine if you just fly into my heart To connect to you, to reach you |
| Nani yori mo daijina kimi no mae de Kizutsukanai youni daiji ni shiteta no wa sou jibun Sono hitogoto ga moshimo sayonara no kawari ni natteshimattemo Ari no mama subete | In front of you, cherished more than anyone is someone who cherishes you so that you won’t get hurt, that’s right, it’s me Even if your words somehow become “goodbye” instead Everything will be as it is |
